first of all, check out my plants!! i think i now have graduated from “not killing” them into actually growing something! the plant on the left is my newest addition to my little garden, a cherry tomato plant. it started so small, but in just two weeks it’s grown almost 2 ft! today i bought a stake and a larger pot in order to prop it up for when it starts to bear fruit. on the far left is some manoa lettuce and a few green onions i’m trying out. even my cactus is growing and needed to be repotted. i feel like a proud mama!!

last night i went to see the puccini’s la boheme at the blaisdell with dee. so much fun! i wore my new pearls and we treated ourselves to the “premium champagne” which was really just overpriced chandon. i really enjoyed the performance, especially because i just watched “rent” again the other night and it was interesting to see the parallels. #25 – see an opera – check! (yes, i went with the cheap seats. luckily i’ve got good vision and the subtitles above the stage were still visible from our seats! haha)

next, there have been a few disappointments. first of all, due to the earthquake in chile which triggered a tsunami here in hawaii (which turned out to be nothing more than a few feet of tidal surges, thank goodness), we were forced to cancel our weekend trip to molokai so i wasn’t able to try the bread at kanemitsu bakery. we’ve rescheduled for the last weekend of this month (my LAST chance to do it before 30!!) also, due to crazy high winds we’ve been experiencing, we had to postpone skydiving as well. it seems like mother nature is not down with me getting through my list right now!
i also made my first attempt at cooking up a batch of tom yum. it came out ok, but not great. so i’m definitely giving it another try…. there’s still time, and i saved an extra batch of the shrimp/lemongrass/lime/chili broth in the freezer so that i don’t have to start all over again. will make some amendments and see how it goes, but here’s what the first bowl came out like…
