#30 – learn how to clean a fish

so the past few months, i’ve definitely been slacking on my list. and i’m not getting any younger! in fact, with the turn of the new year, i’m now less than 3 months away from the big 3-0 on april 1st!

in my defense, it’s not like i’ve been sitting around eating peppermint bark all day. (ok, i have done a lot of holiday over-indulging!) but really, most of my time in december was spent preparing for and then recovering from the honolulu marathon. it was actually on my original list to complete the honolulu marathon, so i’m proud to say that this year was my 4th one, and i set a personal best of 5 hrs, 37 minutes!

but getting back to the list… there have been a few changes recently, and i’ve finally gotten to a version of the list that has 30 items on it! so now begins the hard work of checking them all off while the clock ticks down to april 1st. so today i completed the last two items from the list.

#29 – learn how to pop a champagne cork. i’ll probably have to try this one again as i didn’t so much learn how to do this properly as accidentally let the cork fly (luckily missing the neighbors’ windows!)

and…. (drum roll please…..)

#30 – learn how to clean a fish. this one was fun! kimi brought a cooler full of fish to wisa’s baby shower this morning and asked me if i wanted to take one home, the catch being that i’d have to scale and clean it myself. with detailed instructions from kimi and a “chinese fish kit” of pak choy, salted turnip, and my beautiful little kumu to take home, i set out to complete this new task. (my roommate cory took on the role of supervisor and photographer! haha)

isn’t he handsome? i named him oscar.

see, all clean! i had to break the gills, then pull out the guts along with them!

thanks to kimi, cory, and oscar, for helping me check off #30! for now, he’s chilling out in the freezer (hehe, get it?) until matt comes back next month so i can share him… yummy!
